ACADEMIC AWARDS
PSIA
PSIA, or Private Schools Interscholastic Association, is a competition for private schools in Texas that has many subjects students can participate in. It is the equivalent of public schools' UIL.
Some of these contests include Mathematics, a thirty-minute math test; Number Sense, a ten-minute mental math test; Calculator Applications, a thirty-minute test on calculators; Writing*, a contest in which participants write stories or essays to answer prompts; Music Memory, a test on musical compositions and their composers; Art Memory, a test on art history; Vocabulary, a test on a random set of vocabulary words picked from a three-hundred-word list; and Spelling, a test on a random set of spelling words picked from a nine-hundred-word list and other sources.
*Writing goes by different names depending on grade level.
